Sophie was dumped near some holiday villas in Old Skala. Meg was staying in one of the villas and started feeding her but was very concerned about what would happen when she and her husband went home. She was allowed to leave a letter asking people to continue looking after her but the next guest in the villa took great delight in phoning Meg on his return to the UK telling her that he had been shooing her away every day and had complained about her to the holiday company.
Meg contacted Greek Animal Welfare who agreed to fund her neutering so Sharon took her up to KATs with a view to getting her neutered and released. Unfortunately the villa company then decided that they did not want her returned to the area. They initially asked if she could be put to sleep and then threatened to have her shot if she went back. In the end a compromise was reached. The company have paid 250 pounds to cover the costs of preparing her for rehoming abroad and Meg continued to send money every month to help pay for her food.
We ran a campaign to raise funds to rehome Sophie in the UK but since nobody volunteered to have her and the costs were high, it was decided to rehome her in Germany instead. By doing this, the additional funds raised for her could be used to help a lot more animals and because she didn't have to wait out the full 6 months quarantine, she could be settled in a new home much sooner. She has now been adopted by some people who have an old people's home and she is very much loved by everybody there. Her new owners have already taken her on holiday with them rather than put her into kennels so soon after taking her on so she seems to have landed on her (very large) feet.
