May, rehoming in the UK via Germany. In early May we were again preparing for a journey to Germany and this time going onto the UK. Polly and Lucy were delivered to one of our foster homes in Germany and have now both been homed; they are among the lucky ones.
We also took 2 dogs from the island and 4 of the cats that we had been quarantining all ready to go home via the Pet Passport scheme. We collected a further 4 dogs from Mary which were being taken on behalf of Greek Animal Rescue to their owners in the UK.
Many of you will probably be aware that there have been many problems in taking dogs out of Greece. There has been talk that we sell them, that they are used for experiments etc., etc. All of this is rubbish of course, but it hurts that there are people who would think that of you, and it makes you very nervous when you are inspected prior to embarkation. All went smoothly, but at the port of embarkation for Italy, a policeman wanted to come into the camper to inspect it: my heart sank, but although we had to ask him to take care opening the bathroom door (4 cats were happily living in there), he seemed satisfied, and waved us onto the boat. We did our usual camping on board, and stayed with the animals the whole time. They were very good, and it was a pleasure to spend time with them all.
On arrival in the UK we met up with the owners of the Greek Animal Rescue animals - the dogs were completely relaxed and laid back. Tula’s mum and dad, (Kathy and Pete) came to fetch her, and that was a very emotional reunion, she is a little madam, and they are besotted by her, she is one lucky little cat. Missymog was collected a little later and we set off to Newark to drop of one of the other dogs, and I have heard that the new owners are happy with Skippy.
Next, on to my daughter’s in Doncaster, as two of the cats were for our grandchildren. Jessica had managed to keep the secret of Bandit’s arrival from Daniel, so he had a great surprise - he thought it was just Jessica getting Smokey. Becks was picked up from there and taken on to Ireland to be with his owner.
A successful trip, hard work but worth it, can’t wait for the next one, (that’s not really true!) but we will do it again, and again and again...
