Feb 2004 Valentine's Party

90 people partying on Valentines day

It’s fair to say it was a great Valentine’s Party – a good time was had by all (about 90 people) and if the number of headaches the next day is anything to go by, it was a ‘resounding’ (!!) success.

Kafe Neon’s owners (with a little help from the organisers) made a brilliant job of transforming the venue from a simple bar and pool hall into a worthy location for a Valentine’s party with hearts, balloons, ribbons and candles. They also provided a nice finger buffet of assorted snacks and delicacies.

Peter and Jenny provided an excellent mix of English and Greek music, and very soon almost everyone was up dancing - particularly the traditional Greek music which gave those of us who are learning Greek dancing the opportunity to ‘do it for real’.

Of course, the main aim of the evening was to raise funds, but to know that everyone had a good time in the process is certainly a bonus. By the end of the evening we had raised over 700 € for KATs!

In addition to the raffle, with prizes mostly donated by local businesses, including a meal for two at the International Taverna in Lakithra, baskets of fruit and vegetables, a free cut & blow dry and manicure from Mia Hair Spar in Argostoli, wine, liqueurs and other small gifts, we also held an auction. Jayne’s husband, Ian, was very relieved to see the back of Chucky the clown, knitted by Jayne (see this article), and we were very pleased that he raised 50 €. The Greek man who bid 20 € for the booby prize, was somewhat confused to be presented with a potato in the shape of a heart, but he took it in very good part!

Anne and Niki also managed to raise a further 81 € by selling red roses.

Carole and Niki dance Syrtaki

Carole and Niki (who are members of the Agia Pelagia dance troupe) demonstrated Syrtaki and Barbounaki for us.

As always, our thanks to all who helped to make the evening a success, and particular thanks to Peter and Jenny who provided the sound system, and manned the disco console for 6 hours without a break!
