In 1998 GAWF (Greek Animal Welfare Fund) launched its first annual writing competition, ‘Once Upon an Animal', for children learning English as a foreign language. The competition grows in popularity each year, and this year we were very proud when 3 local Kefalonian children were invited to receive their awards in Athens.
Gabriella Palimeri, from Keramies Junior School, Manoli Kartsonakis and Vicky Mitica, both from Orizontas Language School all received their awards at the Caravel Hotel, Athens on Wednesday June 6th.
The topic was: “Why is the animal that you have drawn happy or sad?”
Gabriella drew a dog and said her dog was happy because it was rescued and taken to KATs in Kefalonia. It lived with Pat and the other animals and was very happy to have a nice home, food and friends to play with.
Full details will be posted on the GAWF site at the end of June
The evening ended with a clown entertaining the children and drinks and snacks. Congratulations to all the children who took part and well done to our Kefalonian award winners.
