More of Sharon’s Skala Stories

Giving Something Back

KATs helped me again in April when they paid to get Fatty neutered. Fatty was a very friendly but independent feral cat who knew exactly which side her bread was buttered. She turned up at my house for an easy life every winter but disappeared to the nearest hotel all summer to get more exciting treats from tourists. I’d spent 2 years trying to catch her between kittens and only managed it in the end because she had her final litter on my sofa and I kept them all in a cardboard box in the downstairs loo.

After this, I decided to try and give something back to the charity. There was already one collection box in Skala at the Solomos Supermarket and I acquired a second for the Eleana hotel pool bar where I work. Although it’s only a small hotel and we had a short season my nagging paid off and we raised over 200 euros which was a good start. The Solomos raised over 250.

In the summer I also fostered a stray dog called Josie for a couple of weeks before a kennel place became available for her to sit out her quarantine time. Josie was a beach dog whose favourite pastime used to be chasing the tourist train around Skala. Now she’s a pampered pet in Liverpool with Con and Lynn.

2005

Heartened by our small success at the Eleana I acquired another three collection boxes for Skala in 2005 – at the Gallera restaurant, Kefalonia Images photo shop and with Jean who collected both from the Asteris and Natalie hotels.

We’ve also become a little more proactive in Skala this year.
