KATS cat hits Lassi

Story Updated 14th December 2004 - click here

As you’ve probably gathered, a good deal of our fund raising efforts in the winter revolve around jumble sales, parties, quiz nights etc. This is fine in winter when there is very little work, but in the summer, most people have to work long hours to earn enough to see them through the winter. So not only do we have less volunteers available to run the events, but also there are are less people available to attend them.

It was while we were worrying about this problem, that Carole came up with what we thought was her daftest idea to date: “No problem”, she said, “with my ears and tail, I will go once a week into Lassi, visit all the bars, and hand out leaflets to the tourists”

Karolina the cat takes up the story:

So off I went on Thursday, 17th of June at 6.00 in the evening. I popped into each bar, where all the football fans were gathered fro the England v. Switzerland match. Everyone was in a good mood and soon the collection box was starting to feel heavy. I ended up in the Odyssey bar at the top end of Lassi, and stopped for a drink and to watch the game.

When England scored their first goal, I suggested that everyone might like to contribute 50 cents for each goal - and everyone agreed!

A little later I popped out to the shops, leaving my gear in the bar, and was surprised to find people stopping me to ask where my collection box was. “I don’t have it with me”, I said, to which they replied “Never mind”, and slipped their money into my shopping bag.

As a result of the generosity of all the holiday makers out and about in Lassi that night, I collected 109.00 €

Story Update 14th December 2004 - Elaine Comes to help

Karolina continued her collections throughout the summer, and, not content with working all day as a volunteer at Villa Maura, Elaine decided she would also help Karolina when she went on the prowl in Lassi.

The girls find another victim

Willy is just as ugly in a “KATs Rescued Dog” coat!

A Footnote about Willy:

He was very proud of his KATs coat, but unfortunately it was just a tad too big for him. The first time he went out, every time he stopped for a wee, he ended up soaking his coat! We made a few adjustments before his next outing.

Thanks from Kefalonia Animal Trust
Thanks to Carole (and Elaine) for being brave enough to wander through Lassi looking like this, and thanks to everyone who contributed.
