Over the past two years we have constantly been asked if people can donate using Gift Aid scheme.
The answer had to be no; we are a Greek registered charity and cannot accept money given on this scheme.
After a great deal of discussion and thought, we decided to look into the possibility of setting up a UK based charity and have now done so.
To date, we have three trustees in place, a bank account and just have to finalise the constitution and apply to the Charities Commission.
Two of the Trustees are coming over in a couple of weeks and we hope to agree on the constitution and set this in motion.
If all goes well we will be able to take advantage of the Gift Aid scheme and this will mean we can get a further 28p in every pound that is donated by tax payers, as you can imagine with most of our money coming from British people this could make a big difference.
We always struggle towards the end of the winter, money gets short and we have to monitor carefully how many neuters we do, and how much we spend on other things. With the Gift Aid in place it could make a major difference to us in the winter months.
As soon as we have acceptance we will publish the relevant details.
