Peter found Woody in Svoronata with a huge gash in his chest. We took him in and cleaned the wound and he had around 40 stitches in to close it. He went on to be a happy and healthy dog, and was lucky enough to be selected for rehoming in Germany.
However, the night before he was due to travel, and despite the fact that he had been neutered, Woody’s red blood got the better of him.
Taking a fancy to one of the long term residents, he decided to try for a bit of rumpy-pumpy, and was soon sporting an enormous erection. To Pat and Dave’s horror, his willie became stuck in the erect position, with a nasty ligature of skin surrounding the base. Things were getting frantic when it became clear that, at the very least Woodie’s trip to Germany was in jeopardy.
KAT’s medics, Peter and Jenny Hersey, were summoned, and Peter was soon sitting at the kitchen table, knees firmly together, requesting rubber gloves and ice!
Our intrepid medics struggled for two hours, sweat dripping from their brows, as they tried sugar-water, KY jelly, and ice, in attempt to reduce the swelling without resorting to surgery. During this time, Pat’s father, Doug, and Dave continued to watch the operation as they ate their dinner, with just the occasional cough at critical moments.
At one point it was decided to attempt surgery, but everyone’s eyes were watering so much at the thought, that no-one could locate a suitable knife. Finally, just before midnight, the swelling started to reduce and Peter was able to return the errant willie to its proper home. Woody, of course, was tranquillized throughout the ordeal, so was unaware of both the amount of hard work that had gone into solving the problem, and the occasional visits of the female residents who came to admire his proud doghood!
Woody is now happily ensconced in his new home in Germany, and has dedicated himself to a life of celibacy (we hope).
