During March, Lulu, a neutered female, came into mock season. Not a big problem you might think, but that does not take Willie into account.
When Willie arrived he was grossly overweight, which didn’t do a lot to help the arthritis in his legs, so he has been on a strict reducing diet. Well, I have to say that Willie’s sex drive was far more effective than his diet - he lost weight at a rate of knots, and his arthritis was miraculously forgotten, allowing him to run up and down stairs (perhaps we ought to market this cure?).
There was only one thought on his mind, but… he couldn’t reach!!! From early morning until late at night, God bless him, he really tried. Nothing was safe: he barked and panted and ran round like a lunatic; he gave up eating, as this would have taken up valuable time which could be used for more important ends.
Guess what! Despite his great age and bad heart, Willie has now been neutered! We figured the risks of a heart attack next time one of the ladies comes into season was greater than the risk of the anaesthetic.
Never mind, he still barks like he smokes 40 a day, and thinks he is a very big dog - if Henry gets out of hand, Willie rushes in, bites his ankles, and is off before Henry knows what’s hit him!
